ORAL HYGIENE
Regular Dental Cleaning
Regular dental cleaning is the part of oral hygiene done by a dentist or dental hygienist to prevent caries, gingivitis & periodontal disease. With a small mirror our hygienist uses a scaler to remove plaque & tartar from the gum line & between the teeth. With good hygiene twice a year is the recommended visits but those with gingivitis or periodontal disease may need to visit our office every 3 or 4 months. Keep in mind that plaque-causing bacteria recolonize your mouth in 24-48 hours.
Periodontal Treatment
Periodontal disease destroys the bone and gum tissues that anchor your teeth. The goal of periodontal treatment is to remove harmful bacteria from pockets of gum that form around your teeth so as to halt further gum erosion and bone loss.
The first nonsurgical treatment to prevent gingivitis from turning into periodontitis involves deep cleaning, called scaling & root planning to remove plaque & tartar on the tooth & root to help gum tissue heal & pockets to shrink. If the disease progresses surgery is need to remove gum pockets.
